In 2008, the Office of Primary Care and Rural Health (OPCRH), Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), was awarded “Grants to Support Oral Health Workforce Activities” from the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA). One component of this grant allowed for a statewide assessment to examine the oral health of specific adult populations throughout Missouri. The data collected through this grant opportunity is crucial, as adult and senior populations have largely been excluded from previous oral health surveillance activities due to current operational funding streams solely directed to populations birth to age eighteen.
