HCF awards $363,000 in applicant defined grants

Kansas City, MO — The Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City (HCF) has awarded eight nonprofit organizations a total of $363,000 in applicant defined grants during the month of July.

HCF reviewed 10 proposals totaling $634,788 for this funding round.

The following grants were awarded in July 2018:


Agency Award Program Description
Blue Springs R-IV School District $40,000 To support school-based crisis intervention, case management, and therapeutic services for students of Valley View High School and The Freshman Center.
Bright Futures Fund $30,000 To assist students dealing with trauma by helping two schools become more trauma-informed and providing partial salary support for two counselors.
Food Equality Initiative $55,000 To provide allergen-friendly and gluten-free foods to low-income individuals and families diagnosed with food allergies or celiac disease.
Heartland Outreach Providers  $50,000 To provide quality oral care and basic dental treatment for more than 2,200 patients in Jackson County, Missouri.
Mercy & Truth Medical Missions $28,000 To increase access to quality care for the underserved in Johnson County, Kansas, by hiring a medical doctor.
Missouri Budget Project $25,000 To conduct analysis, communications, outreach, and advocacy on fiscal policy issues that impact public health and mental health services for the uninsured.
Redemptorist Center $60,000 To provide durable goods, medical resources, and referrals to underserved elderly populations.
Thrive Allen County $75,000 To support the core development and financial administration of Thrive Allen County’s activities and community organizations.

Applicant defined grants are reviewed and awarded monthly. These grants allow organizations to define their own immediate grant needs in relation to the HCF mission, target population, and service area. Organizations are allowed to apply once per year and are capped at $75,000. In 2018, HCF will award approximately $4 million in applicant defined grants.
