Ladder to Leadership: Developing the Next Generation of Community Health Leaders

Kansas City is one of eight cities selected to participate in a fellowship program to prepare the next generation of non-profit leaders. HCF will collaborate with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) in Ladder to Leadership, a comprehensive training program that empowers emerging leaders in nonprofit health with the skills of success. Those interested in learning more and applying for the program are invited to attend an information session on October 18th from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. or October 19th from 1:00 – 3;00 p.m. at the Kauffman Conference Center. Being A Player: Nonprofit Rules for Lobbying and Advocacy

Nonprofit organizations are looking to get involved in public policy as a way to influence programs and resources that aid poor and vulnerable residents in our communities. Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations can and should engage in advocacy around their issues. It’s simply a matter of understanding what your organization can and cannot do. On Tuesday, November 9, the Alliance for Justice will present an interactive workshop from 1-3:30 p.m. on the federal rules that govern nonprofit lobbying and advocacy. Register.

HCF Announces 2011 Funding Deadlines

HCF has announced its 2011 Applicant Defined Grant and Foundation Defined Grant funding deadlines. All applications will be due at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on the deadline dates. This is a change from previous years.

Did You Know?

Nearly 12% of adults in Kansas and over 13% of adults in Missouri have been diagnosed with asthma. The percentage is even higher in some rural counties with Allen County, Kansas at 21% and Cass County, Missouri at 17.6%. This information and more can be found on kchealthdata.org.
