HCF Announces Safety Net RFP and Pre-Proposal Conference

In May, HCF issued its 2010 RFP for Safety Net Health Care. Letters of Intent for Safety Net funding will be due on July 28, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.; full proposal due on August 25, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Grant awards will be announced on November 18, 2010. A Pre-Proposal conference will be held on Tuesday, Jun 22 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Pioneer College Auditorium at 2700 E. 18th Street. Register here.

On Thursday, May 13th, South Carolina lawmakers overrode a veto by Governor Mark Sanford to increase the state’s cigarette tax from $.07 to $.57 per pack, leaving Missouri with the nation’s lowest cigarette tax.  At just $.17 per pack, Missouri’s cigarette tax rate falls well below the national average of $1.42 per pack.  To learn more, read the publication “Tobacco in Missouri: Policy Options to Reduce the Burden” at HCF’s Policy Spot.

Promising Practice and Care Coordination

On July 9, HCF will host “Promising Practice and Care Coordination” for health and health care professionals interested in learning about promising models in care coordination. The forum will feature Dr. Jim Walton, Vice President of Health Equity at Baylor Health Care System, and a panel of HCF grantees who will share lessons learned from the implementation of care coordination projects. The event will be from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Kauffman Conference Center. Registration is required.

Grant Report on HCF Oral Health Funding

In 2008, HCF committed over $1.5 million to support oral health projects. These programs provided direct services to approximately 4,755 people with limited access to care, including more than 1,500 children. Read HCF’s Grant Report on Oral Health Funding to learn more about these grants.
