Smoke Free Kansas
On Friday, March 12, Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson signed a bill making workplaces, restaurants, and bars throughout the state smokefree, beginning July 1, 2010. Parkinson signed House Bill 2221 before more than 100 onlookers, including anti-tobacco advocates, legislators, public health officials, and HCF's President and CEO Steve Roling. HCF provided $100,000 to support the lobbying and grassroots efforts of Clean Air Kansas. Although the state of Missouri has yet to pass a statewide clean air law, HCF is hopeful that the state will eventually be part of this movement that is sweeping the U.S.
