HCF Accepting Nominations for HealthyKC Award

Whether you are a teacher who encourages healthy lifestyles for your students or a volunteer who drives those needing health care to an appointment, HCF wants to hear your story for The Healthy KC Award.

To reward those who are promoting good health among the uninsured or underserved, HCF will award one Kansas City area resident or organization with The Healthy KC Award. It is the third in a series of awards given out in 2009-10 in Lafayette, Allen and Cass counties in Missouri.

“Individuals and businesses across Kansas City are actively helping the uninsured and underserved communities lead healthier lives, and we wanted to recognize those efforts,” said Steve Roling, President and CEO of the Health Care Foundation. “Through The Healthy Award, we will be able to show our appreciation and encourage those living in the Greater Kansas City area to continue making a difference in their communities.”

The recipient will receive a plaque and a $5,000 grant if he or she works for a health-related nonprofit organization that is eligible for HCF funding. If the recipient is an individual or business, the $5,000 grant will be awarded to a health-related, eligible nonprofit organization of the recipient’s choice in Greater Kansas City area. Nominations for The Healthy KC Award will be accepted through March.

 

Register for HCF Mental Health Pre-Proposal Conference

HCF will hold its 2010 Mental Health Pre-Proposal Conference on February 16th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Jack Reardon Civic Center. Mike Boniello, LSCSW, LCSW will speak from 9:00-10:30 on vicarious trauma, caring for the caregiver and professional burnout. During these difficult economic times, emotional & physical stress of providing services to clients increase and service providers experience their own increased stress professionally and personally. Mr. Boniello will focus on the effects of vicarious trauma and how to more effectively help ourselves, our staff and our clients. Register.

 

HCF Announces New Board Officers, Members

At its January 26th annual meeting of the Board of Directors, HCF elected six new members and one incumbent member, including:

  • Albert Mauro
  • Shirley Marie McCarther, Ed.D
  • Marcia Nielsen, PhD, MPH
  • Daniel T. Purdom, M.D.
  • Kenny Southwick, Ed.D
  • Kenneth P. Stremming
  • Susan Wilson

HCF also nominated a new slate of officers. Norman Siegel was named Chair; Sylvia Robinson, Vice-Chair; Bishop Steve Jones, Secretary; and Sheilahn Davis-Wyatt, Treasurer.

Full Proposal Deadline: April 28, 2010 by 5 p.m.

Letter of Intent Deadline: July 28, 2010 by 5 p.m.
Full Proposal Deadline: Aug. 25, 2010 by 5 p.m.
