Healthy Lifestyles Pre-Proposal Conference Featuring Mark Fenton

In our effort to eliminate barriers to quality health, the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City will announce its 2010 Healthy Lifestyles Request for Proposals (RFP) in November. Letters of Intent for Healthy Lifestyles funding round will be due on January 20, 2010; full proposal due on February 17, 2010 and grant awards announced on May 20, 2010.

There will be significant changes to the 2010 Healthy Lifestyles RFP. All organizations interested in Healthy Lifestyles funding are encouraged to attend the Pre-Proposal Conference. The conference will be held on Thursday, November 19th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Jack Reardon Civic Center located at 520 Minnesota Ave, Kansas City, KS.

Former PBS host of America’s Walking and contributing editor to Health magazine, Mark Fenton, will speak from 1:00-2:30, with a presentation and question and answer session on the RFP and application process immediately following. Fenton is one of the nation’s foremost experts and advocates of walking and speaks nationally about public health, planning and transportation issues.

HCF Sponsors Media Workshop: Media Tips for Nonprofit Organizations

On Wednesday, October 28th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Pioneer Community College Auditorium, HCF is hosting a conference, Media Tips for NonprofitOrganizations. Health-related, nonprofit organizations will learn about the ever-evolving news industry, ways to promote themselves and grants received, how to communicate with the media, HIPAA regulations and much more.

Each organization in attendance will receive a media toolkit to help promote the organization and generate media coverage. The toolkit includes a template news release, media tips sheet, local news contacts and HCF fact sheet and logo.

Grantee Spotlight: Partnership for Children

In Missouri, there are over 127,000 children who do not have access to health care coverage. Founded in 1991, Partnership for Children (PFC) advocates for those without a voice – children and youth – through initiating health-related policies, analyzing and reporting issues, and most of all, arousing public awareness for health problems of children and youth.

With a $75,000 Applicant Defined Grant, HCF is supporting PFC’s health-related advocacy work on behalf of indigent and underserved children in Kansas City, Missouri. Read more.
