Grantee Spotlight: Seton Center

Oral health care has become a health care crisis for economically disadvantaged Americans. In the greater Kansas City area, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found a higher rate of periodontal disease than the national average due to inadequate access to oral health care services. Because of the lack for providers, adults and children are threatened to encounter periodontal disease consequences, ranging from learning problems to premature birth.

Seton Center Family & Services considers the problem of inadequate dental service as a cause of “the cycles of poverty,” and aims to help people break the poverty cycles through its Project Hope.

With a $200,000 HCF Safety Net grant, Seton Center provides over 770 oral screenings and 7,000 patient visits to more than 200 uninsured low-income children, the working poor, mentally ill, and ethnic minorities in Greater Kansas City.
