This doesn’t seem possible…but it has finally happened to me. This week I become eligible for Medicare.
I remember when I thought folks on Medicare were REALLY OLD. But now that I’m on the other side, I must rethink my earlier opinion. People my age are vibrant, energetic and active. I see people my age exercising, traveling in RVs all over the country, working 30 – 70 hours per week in their first or second career with no plans to slow down, going back to school to learn a new skill, volunteering, and spending more time with their families.
Frankly, after observing friends who have turned 65, their lifestyle looks pretty fun to me. It all boils down to attitude.
We probably all know some people who are simply miserable no matter if they are working, on vacation, retired, in-between jobs, etc. We also know folks, who no matter how rough their life is, always have a smile on their face and skip in their step. I have been honored to have many people age 65+ serve on the Foundation board over the years, and they have been outstanding role models for those of us who are “Medicare eligible.” They have more energy and passion for living life to the fullest than people half their age.
So becoming “Medicare eligible” is a badge I will wear proudly. So many people have told me that our best years in life are after 65. So with a positive attitude, a loving family, a great place to work with outstanding associates, good health and lots of energy…I begin my “Medicare” years with much hope, excitement and with a smile on my face.
