Health Information Technology

Health information technology has the capability to streamline many inefficient processes in the health care system. Recent legislation including health reform is investing resources in health information technology to improve our health care system. For instance, state-based insurance exchanges would offer consumers the benefits of online enrollment and management. Wide-based adoption of electronic health records will also lead to cost savings and better patient care, as they can help doctors diagnose patients sooner, while reducing medical errors. It is an important time for health information technology – the decisions made now will affect the health system for years to come.
