Kansas City Scores Touchdown with Free Health Screenings

Special thanks to Raquel Garcia of Truman Medical Centers for contributing information about Touchdown Family Fest.

TFF logo_resize.jpgIt’s hard to picture the iconic Arrowhead Stadium filled not with raucous fans and Chiefs football stars but instead with patients and a multitude of doctors, nurses and other medical professionals. But that’s just what will happen at Touchdown Family Fest this weekend.

According to a report* from Mid-America Regional Council, almost 450,000 people in metropolitan Kansas City are either uninsured or covered by Medicaid.

To help our 450,000 fellow Kansas Citians, a number of organizations, including Truman Medical Centers, UMKC, the Kansas City Chiefs and others, partnered to form Touchdown Family Fest, a free health and wellness fair dedicated to helping promote health to the Kansas City community through screenings, education and resources.

Touchdown Family Fest will be held from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, April 7 at Arrowhead Stadium. Admission is free to the public.

Some of the services offered to attendees include:

  • Heart healthy screenings
  • Sports physicals
  • Mental health services
  • Immunizations
  • Glaucoma and vision screenings
  • Dental services
  • Men’s and women’s health
  • Other health screenings

If followup services are required, staff will be on hand to help set up appointments with the appropriate care provider in the patient’s area.

And, what is Arrowhead Stadium like without a little music and fun? Touchdown Family Fest will also feature a multitude of live entertainment including sports clinics, live music, live DJ and rock climbing for the kids. The Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders and other Chiefs personalities will be in attendance.

Last year was the first Touchdown Family Fest. The attendance was estimated between 1,350–1,600 individuals with an additional 260 volunteers and vendors. This year, we are expecting around 5,000 participants.
