The Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City is proud to sponsor a Community Read Event featuring the author Will Allen.
Mr. Allen wrote the book, The Good Food Revolution: Growing Healthy Food, People, and Communities. As a pioneering urban farmer, Mr. Allen points the way to building a new food system that can feed and heal communities. He also is the founder and CEO of Growing Power, Inc., a not-for-profit center for urban agriculture training and building community food security systems.
Additional achievements include:
- Allen was the second farmer to be named a John D. and Katherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellow and “genius grant” winner.
- Time Magazine named Allen to their 2010 list of 100 World’s Most Influential People.
- A member of the Clinton Global Initiative, Allen was invited to the White House to join First Lady Michelle Obama in launching “Let’s Move!”, her signature leadership program to reverse the epidemic of childhood obesity in America.
The event will be sponsored by HCF, Saint Luke’s East Hospital, John Knox Village, Mid-Continent Library and the Downtown Lee’s Summit Farmer’s Market.
We encourage you to read The Good Food Revolution: Growing Healthy Food, People, and Communities before attending.
